A46 – Coventry By-pass – litter video

The A46 from the M40 to the M6 is an APTR (All Purpose Trunk Road). It is part of the national Strategic Road Network managed by Highways England.

They are responsible for its maintenance apart from litter picking. That’s the job of each local authority along its route. They have little interest in doing this as it’s costly, dangerous and no voters live along the route -so why bother.

Coventy City Council now only claim to clean their stretch twice a year.

We are campaigning to get Highways England to clean these roads so that the contractor who cuts the verge can pick up the litter. For more on this check out Cleansing of HE trunk roads (APTRs) – transfer of responsibility to Highways England
