Vale of White Horse District Council are one of the local authorities who have to clean their section of this Highways England trunk road.

They are in the same positions as Rugby Borough Council are with regard to the A46 Coventry By-pass highlighted in this video

This is what they told Wantage MP, David Johnson, earlier this year:

“The A34 litter clearance in general is a major issue for the district council, because of the nature of the road – fast moving, two lanes with no hard shoulder – our contractor is only able to access the verges to clear litter when the road is partially or fully closed. It is not possible to get permission from Highways England for daytime closures to undertake work because of the strategic importance of the road and the congestion that would be caused. This makes litter picking very difficult when it is having to be done at night.”
