Dear Mr Edgington
I write in response to your email regarding litter issues on the M32.
We do not have our own internal document available to send to you, we work to the DEFRA Littler Code of Practice and levels outlined by our Client, the Highways Agency who specify what grades they wish us to work to.
We have never reached a level of litter on the M32 that has required the 28 day action to be implicated, therefore we are unable to comment.
Bi-monthly traffic management is in place along sections of the M32 that require it (i.e. from Junction 2 to End of Motorway), to enable us to undertake various maintenance activities and this will incorporate litter and debris collection. This traffic management usually is in place for a period of 5 nights. This is in addition to the regular daily litter picking that our standby crews undertake on the remainder of the M32.
I have spoken with our Senior Route Engineer once again and he has confirmed that we are correctly working and following the litter picking requirements outlined by the Highways Agency, unless we are instructed to spend more money by our Client we will continue to follow these practices.
Yours truly,
Ryan
