Dear Mr Edgington

I write in response to your recent emails regarding litter along the M32.

I have been in continuous discussions with our Senior Route Engineer upon receiving your comments and notifications. I can advise you that we are still following the same practices and procedures outlined to you in August of last year, which is governed by DEFRA and the Highways Agency.

As advised, we have a two man team undertaking litter picking activities along the M32 on a daily basis, however there are areas which are not safe to work in without traffic management and lane closures, which are costly and are not always possible due to other works already in place in close proximity, including the Managed Motorways scheme.

Whilst I do not wish to appear unhelpful, as litter is not safety critical and with premium being placed on cost saving given the current financial climate, our budgets are restricted to maintain the minimum acceptable standard.

Our Senior Route Engineer confirms that that we are correctly working and following the litter picking requirements outlined by the Highways Agency and unless we are instructed to spend more money by our Client we will continue to follow these practices.

Once again, we would like to thank you for taking the time to contact us with details of littered areas and assure you that your comments are passed on to the relevant personnel to undertake necessary picking activities, when and where possible.

Yours truly,

Ryan Scott
