Bosses at the Highways Agency have launched a crackdown after a staggering 172 sacks of rubbish were collected from the junction at Denton in May.
The two-week clean-up has cost taxpayers more than £8,000. Motorists are now being warned they could face fines of up to £2,500 if they are caught.
The junction, known to motorists as Denton Island, forms a link between J24 on the M60 and J1 of the M67.
