Referring to the Government’s recently leaked Litter Strategy, Secretary of State for the Environment Andrea Leadsom said:
“Britain must act now to clean up the country and change our culture so that it is no longer acceptable to drop litter”.
However we have heard similar rhetoric before from her predecessors.
In 1990 Chris Patten:
“Litter is an issue which causes mounting public anger, and we are determined to act decisively to deal with litter and filth on our streets”
In 2005 Margaret Beckett:
“Everywhere, litter is a growing problem, and the Bill contains a range of measures to help to tackle it”.
